N2  - In 2015, terrorist attacks in Pakistan declined significantly as compared to the previous year. In comparison, 2014 ended on a sombre note following the December 2014 attack at the Army Public School in Peshawar which killed 132 children. The overall reduction in terrorist attacks is largely attributed to two military operations, namely Zarb-e-Azb in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), and the Karachi Operation, both of which have entered into their second phases. Under the newly implemented National Action Plan (NAP), Pakistan’s military courts handed out at least 300 death sentences to militants this year. At the same time, a large number of Baloch militants surrendered under a general amnesty scheme - ‘Peaceful Balochistan.’ However, sectarian violence and attacks on high profile targets continued, while the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) strengthened its presence in the country.
